Recent staff changes, additions announced at Texas newspapers.

Cindye Ginsel, a veteran in marketing and publication design, is the new publisher of the Elgin Courier.
The appointment was announced by Granite Publications Sales Director Jim Beaver, who had been serving as interim publisher. 

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Express-News Editor Mike Leary retired May 18, ending a 46-year career in journalism.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, who has led the newsroom since August 2012, said he is retiring to travel and spend more time with his five grandchildren. 
Leary, 69, said he hopes to go to Antarctica, the only continent he hasn’t visited.
“One of the things I wanted to do, like my father, was be the editor of a newspaper, and I’ve certainly done that and had a great time,” Leary said. “I’ll really miss the staff and the camaraderie.”

EL CAMPO –  U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Corpus Christi) has named former publisher and longtime El Campo resident Chris Barbee as his district field representative for the southern end of the 27th Congressional District. 
Barbee will handle Wharton, Matagorda, Jackson and Calhoun counties. 

PARIS – Interim publisher and longtime business manager Relan Walker has assumed the role of publisher of The Paris News, Dolph Tillotson, president of Southern  Newspapers Inc., announced.
Walker said her goal is to continue the Paris News’ tradition of quality and community-minded coverage. She pledged to “make sure the employees of the Paris News have the resources and support they need to produce a quality product each day.”
