Award-winning investigative journalist leads El Paso Times

Zahira Torres has been named editor/news director of the El Paso Times.
Torres, 36, returned to El Paso from the Los Angeles Times last year to lead the newspaper’s investigations under former editor Robert Moore. She has deep roots in El Paso and at the El Paso Times. 

Brian Brisendine takes helm as publisher of Brownfield News

Brian Brisendine, 38, has succeeded his late father as as editor and publisher of the Brownfield News.
Lynn Brisendine, publisher since April 1977, died Oct. 14. 
The younger Brisendine is a Brownfield native, reared in the community. He graduated from Brownfield High School in 1997.
He is a 2001 graduate of West Texas A&M  University in Canyon with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications/print journalism and a minor in English. While in college, he worked as sports editor, reporter, news editor, and advertising saleperson at the Canyon News.

FREDERICKSBURG – Three new employees have joined the staff at the Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post, publisher Ken Cooke announced.

Stephen Garcia

PLEASANTON – Stephen Garcia is the new sports editor for The Pleasanton Express, which has one of the largest sports sections dedicated to high school and sub-varsity sports in Texas. 

Garcia, who grew up in Corpus Christi, received his bachelor of arts degree in mass communication with a print journalism concentration from Louisiana State University.

STEPHEN FARRIS

GROESBECK – Stephen Farris is the new general manager of the Groesbeck Journal.

Farris previously served as the sports editor for both The Mexia News and Groesbeck Journal. He will balance both positions until a replacement can be found to take over the sports department.

He brings with him 15 years of experience in the newspaper business, beginning as a route carrier for the Corsicana Daily Sun in 2001, then as a reporter in 2004. He became the Daily Sun’s full-time photographer in 2005.
