Elgin Courier welcomes new publisher

Cindye Ginsel, a veteran in marketing and publication design, is the new publisher of the Elgin Courier.
The appointment was announced by Granite Publications Sales Director Jim Beaver, who had been serving as interim publisher.
A graduate of Angelo State University, Ginsel began her career in journalism with GTE in San Angelo in 1978, transferring with the company to Dallas in 1982. During her tenure in GTE’s marketing department, she served as editor of several award-winning business publications and produced all of the company’s brochures for more than a decade. When GTE created a spin-off company, GTE Communications Corporation, Ginsel led its marketing efforts. Transferring to Austin in 2000, she made her home in Elgin.
“When GTE became Verizon, I had to make a choice — either retire early or move back to Dallas,” she said. “It was an easy decision. I stayed.”
In 2006, Ginsel was named director of Bastrop’s visitor center, serving as an ambassador for the city. Nine years later, she joined the Explore Bastrop County team, extending her tourism efforts to include Elgin and Smithville. As chair of the Bastrop County Historical Commission, Ginsel works with a team of local historians to assist those seeking Texas Historical Commission (THC) markers to acknowledge the history behind the county’s old homes and cemeteries.
As publisher of the Courier, Ginsel will serve the community of Elgin in keeping its residents up to date on local news.
“We’re branching out to other communities, including Bastrop, Smithville, McDade, Rosanky and Rockne through the Bastrop County Insider, which is a relatively new addition to the newspaper,” she said.
