Kerrville Daily Times

The stars are aligned for the right person. Publisher openings at Southern Newspapers are rare. That's what makes this opportunity at the Kerrville Daily Times (TX) so special.

The Kerrville Daily Times serves a vibrant and growing community in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, within easy driving distance of Austin and San Antonio — two of the fastest-growing markets in the nation. And did I mention Texas? No state income tax, a fast-growing population, and a strong economy. Things really are bigger in Texas — including this opportunity. The community is highly engaged, and the newspaper is both successful and poised for additional growth.

Who are we looking for? An experienced driver of print and digital revenue, a strong community leader, a talented people person, and someone with a deeply rooted passion for community journalism. What we do matters to the communities we serve. Publisher experience is helpful, but a proven revenue generator with strong leadership skills, boundless energy, and a desire to make a difference will absolutely be considered.

What should you do today? Act — and act now. Opportunities like this don't come along often, and these stars won't remain aligned forever. When we find the right person, we'll move quickly to put them in a position to succeed.

A final note: We offer a competitive compensation package, 401(k), health insurance, paid vacation, and all the benefits you'd expect from a successful organization. We work hard, have fun, and take pride in being a company where publisher opportunities rarely become available.

Act now: Leonard Woolsey, President, Southern Newspapers, Inc., at leonard.woolsey@sninews.com.

Newspapers for Sale

Location:
Hearne, Robertson County, TX

Historic Robertson County Newspapers Offered for Sale

Phillips Publishing, LLC is offering its Robertson County, Texas newspaper group for sale, including the Robertson County News, a historic publication with roots dating back to 1893.

The Robertson County News traces its lineage through several historic community publications including the Hearne Democrat, Franklin Advocate (1983, no longer in print), Calvert Tribune (no longer in print), and Bremond Gazetta (no longer in print). The Robertson County News remains the active publication serving the county today.

Phillips Publishing, LLC, led by President Dennis Phillips, has operated the Robertson County newspaper group since 2012, acquiring the publications from Moser Community Media in December 2019, just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the challenges faced during the pandemic and personal loss within the ownership family, the newspaper remained stable and continued serving the community.

In February 2023, Teresa Phillips passed away following a battle with colon cancer. While the newspaper remained operational and financially sound through these events, Phillips Publishing has made the decision to transition ownership.

Included Real Estate

The sale includes the newspaper’s real estate located at: 305 Cedar St., Hearne, Texas

The property sits in the center of downtown Hearne, directly across from City Hall, the Municipal Building, Police Department, and Fire Department, placing the newspaper at the heart of the community it covers.

The building is configured as a 2-bedroom, 1-bath residence with integrated office space, including:

  • One private office
  • Open newsroom workspace accommodating three employees
  • Full kitchen
  • Closed garage/storage area with washer and dryer connections

This layout has proven ideal for a publisher-operator or husband-and-wife team, allowing the property to function as both a residence and a working newspaper office.

Business Opportunity

“The Robertson County News has been rebuilt into a stable, profitable community newspaper,” said Phillips. “It’s difficult to let it go, but Phillips Publishing has expanded into Southeast Texas and continues to grow there. Robertson County is now outside our targeted geographic focus.”

Phillips added that the property and office configuration were originally designed as a combined home and newsroom for him and his wife.

“Someone else is going to benefit from this unique setup located in the center of downtown Hearne.”

Financial Highlights
  • Annual Revenue: Approximately $340,000
  • Cash Flow Return: Approximately 28%
  • Weekly Press Run: 800 copies
  • Website Traffic: 2,000+ weekly visitors
  • Email Newsletter: 500+ daily opens (5 days per week)

The Robertson County News maintains strong relationships with local government agencies, schools, and law enforcement, and enjoys broad community support.

Printing

Printing services are currently provided through Center Printing, with a printing contract available for continuation.

North Texas Newspaper Group for Sale - A long-established North Texas newspaper group is seeking a new owner. The group includes five weekly newspapers, each with paid circulation, and a monthly magazine that has expanded to two editions since its launch in 2012.

Our oldest publication, founded in 1885, is the longest-running paper in the county. Additional newspapers were introduced in 1948, 1970 and two in 2005. Each publication offers a print edition, online edition, e-edition, website, email newsletter and active social media presence, providing advertisers with highly targeted and engaged local audiences.

The e-editions and websites broaden audience reach, while social media platforms keep new content in front of readers daily. All papers meet Texas Government Code requirements for public notices, and our integrated marketing approach ensures complete market saturation across our communities.

Each publication focuses on local stories, highlighting school sports, city government, area businesses, community events and breaking news. Our social media channels rank at or near the top in each community and are used strategically to drive readers to our websites and, ultimately, to our digital and print editions. We have maintained newspaper websites since 1998 and embraced social media from its earliest days.

These award-winning publications have long served as trusted sources of news and information. The business is currently located in a prime (leased) downtown space in one of the fastest growing counties in Texas.
