Temple Telegram appoints Morrissey general manager

TEMPLE – Scot Morrissey, a veteran newspaper publisher and digital operations manager, is the new general manager of the Temple Daily Telegram, Mrs. Sue Mayborn, the newspaper’s editor and publisher, announced. 

Morrissey succeeded Don Cooper, who had been acting general manager since Aug. 5. 

Jeff Shabram retires from Highland Lakes Publishing

MARBLE FALLS – Jeff Shabram has retired as publisher for Highland Lakes Publishing, (HLP), including the Highlander in Marble Falls and the Burnet Bulletin.

Hennington leaves Taylor Press to accept teaching post in Hutto

TAYLOR – Jason Hennington, former area editor for the Taylor Press and Elgin Courier, has left the newspaper to join the faculty of Hutto High School, teaching photography.

A native of Taylor, Hennington started as a reporter with his hometown newspaper in 2013 and moved into leadership positions, including editor and publisher of the Taylor Press, before stepping up to area editor for Granite Media Partners.

He is a graduate of Sul Ross University with bachelor and masters degrees.

Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post

FREDERICKSBURG – The Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post has hired Michelle Adams in the advertising department and Michaela Rush in the newsroom, Publisher Ken Esten Cooke announced.

In addition, Christine Granados, who has worked at the paper as needed, is now serving as the managing editor.

CANTON – David Barber has been named editor of the Canton Herald, Wills Point Chronicle and Van Zandt News.

The announcement was made by John Buzzetta, president of Van Zandt Newspapers, LLC, which publishes the newspapers.

Kerrville Daily Times welcomes Greg Burney as new publisher

KERRVILLE – Greg Burney has assumed duties as publisher of the Kerrville Daily Times, succeeding Jennifer McCullough, who announced her retirement March 6.

“Greg Burney is a lucky guy, because he’s working for a company that has a tremendous owner that believes in community journalism. That just means for him, his path is going to be clear and successful. When you truly love a community, everyone benefits,” McCullough said.

McCullough’s last day at The Times was April 26.

Branson assumes duties as publisher for Boerne Star, Bandera Bulletin

BOERNE - Marcy Branson is the new area publisher for the Boerne Star and Bandera Bulletin.

The announcement was made by officials at Granite Media Partners Inc., owner of both publications.

Granite Media officials said Branson, a 27-year veteran in news, sales and advertising organizations, brings a unique type of energy to the Hill Country Group, as well as decades of experience.
