AUSTIN – Veteran journalist Terry Young, a former president of the Austin Headliners Club, died Oct. 1 at his home in Cedar Park. 
He was 81.

The Texas Press Association recently recognized Rep. Andrew Murr, R-Junction, as a Champion of Transparency for his work to keep public notices in newspapers. Murr has represented District 53 since 2014. The award was presented by Melissa Perner, publisher of the Ozona Stockman, during a recent town hall meeting in Ozona.

Experts in news coverage, digital development and First Amendment topics will share insight on current issues at the 2019 Texas Press Midwinter Conference and Trade Show Jan. 24 - 26 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Denton Convention Center.

The Texas Better Newspaper Contest is changing to adapt to TPA’s new schedule of one annual meeting per year.
Contest awards will be presented at the midwinter conference, beginning with the January 2020 event.
During the transition in 2018-19, the contest will be expanded to include the calendar year of 2018 plus eight months of 2019.

The 2019 Texas Press Midwinter Conference and Trade Show will focus on the critical importance of community newspapers with the theme “Subscribe to Democracy: Community Journalism Matters.” 
The conference theme dovetails with a Texas Press Service campaign with promotional materials available to member newspapers free of charge.
