Postal task force releases recommendations

The Task Force on the United States Postal System has issued its recommendations for reforming the nation’s mail service.
The task force, established in 2018, was charged with recommending administrative and legislative reforms to create a sustainable business model to continue to provide mail services for all Americans. The resulting 74-page report concluded the USPS has an outdated business model and is on an unsustainable financial path. Additional findings include:

The start of this new year marks the beginning of my 26th year as editor of The Canadian Record. It also...not coincidentally...marks the 26th anniversary of my father’s death. 
I remember the long, sad drive back from the Oklahoma City hospital where he had been taken by ambulance the day before, and where he died the next morning during a surgeon’s futile Hail Mary attempt to save his worn-out heart. 

Silent auction raises funds for Texas Newspaper Foundation

It’s time to think about a donation to the annual silent auction benefiting the Texas Newspaper Foundation. 
Items will be on view and bidding will be open Thursday evening, Jan. 24, and Friday morning, Jan. 25, during the trade show at the TPA 2019 Convention at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Denton Convention Center.

Boerne Star welcomes Parra as new publisher

BOERNE – Jeff Parra, 55, a veteran of newspaper advertising and management, has assumed duties as publisher of the Boerne Star. 
Daniel Philhower, vice president and controller of Granite Publications, the management company for the Boerne Star, made the official announcement.
“With more than 25 years experience in the newspaper business, Jeff has a strong publishing background with experience in marketing and advertising,” Philhower said.
Parra replaces Brian Cartwright, who was named advertising director at the New Braunfels newspaper.
