On May 8, the U.S. Postal Service published a final notice in the Federal Register notifying the mailing community that required mailers that enter full-service mailings at a Business Mail Entry Unit (BMEU) to participate in Seamless Parallel by June 1. In addition, the Postal Service provides advance notice of its intent: To require all mailers with an authorized Detached Mail Unit to enroll in the Seamless Acceptance Program by May 1, 2021; and to verify all BMEU-entered full-service mailings using only automated sampling and verification processes beginning July 1, 2021.

Q: Recently our governor and attorney general seem to be pushing to re-open life as it was before the coronavirus pandemic. I have a city council meeting on “Zoom” tonight, which isn’t a problem, except that the agenda is too danged long! Have we gotten any guidance on how the governor’s more recent COVID-19 related executive orders affect open meetings?

Everyone is talking about “the new normal” Texas and our nation face in the wake of COVID-19. 
We’re watching friends and fellow business owners grapple with issues such as whether or not they should follow CDC guidelines and wear masks to serve their customers or if that will offend their customers, whether they should reopen their businesses and more. 

LIVINGSTON – General Manager Kelli Barnes has been promoted to the position of publisher of all Polk County Publishing Company (PCPC) newspapers, including the Polk County Enterprise, company owner Alvin Holley announced.
The change will take effect immediately.
Holley has been an owner of the publishing company since 1972 and served as its general manager or publisher since that time. While he has been semi-retired since 2018, he will remain an active participant in the operation of the company and its newspapers.

As Texas reopened for business in stages, newspapers focused on their communities as they and their fellow hometown businesses navigated the “new normal” of the COVID-19 era.
Each week in May, Gov. Greg Abbott announced new phases of the reopening designed to restart the Texas economy made moribund by the coronavirus response. Limits on capacity were maintained during each phase, along with other safety recommendations, such as encouraging people to wear masks and wash their hands frequently.

ROBSTOWN – Sam Fore Keach, the third generation of his family to publish his hometown newspaper and the fourth generation to serve as president of the South Texas Press Association, died April 24. He was 75.
Originally formed in 1919, the Robstown Record, later The Nueces County Record-Star, saw several changes in ownership until 1926, when it was purchased by Elma and Sam L. Fore Jr.
