Items are now being accepted for the annual silent auction benefiting the Texas Newspaper Foundation.
The auction is a popular feature of the annual TPA Convention and Trade Show, scheduled June 10-12 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Denton Convention Center.
Items will be on display and up for bid during the trade show reception Thursday evening, June 10, and again on Friday morning, June 11. Bidding ends at 11:45 a.m. Friday, when winners will pay for and pick up their items.
POST – Hicks Media has named former editor Julia Childs as publisher of The Post Dispatch.
Childs was previously editor until 2019 when she retired. As publisher, she will be responsible for operations, content, advertising, readership and community relations.
Her media career has included radio and print. After a successful career with the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal as marketing director, she left that newspaper in 2013 to help her sisters with the care of their mother. In 2016, she joined the Post-Dispatch as editor.

The Texas Constitution allows lawmakers only 140 days every two years to do their normal business. More than a month had already expired when the deadly February northers hit, and other than legislation involving the state budget — the only measure the Constitution requires them to handle while they’re in session — lawmakers had yet to assign any bills to committee.

Pandemic-weary Texas newspapers confronted a new disaster Feb. 12-18 as deadly winter storms hammered the state with life-threatening cold, power and water system failures and thousands of miles of treacherous roads.
The storms threatened an already fragile state economy and hampered healthcare systems already sorely taxed by COVID-19.
FLOYDADA — The Floyd County Hesperian-Beacon has been acquired by Paragraph Ranch, LLC, a media company based in Dickens County that also publishes the Texas Spur in Spur and The Caprock Courier in Silverton.
Founded in 1896 as the Hesperian-Gazette, the newspaper merged with the Lockney Beacon in 1991 to become the Floyd County Hesperian-Beacon under publisher Kenneth Towery and editor Alice Towery Gilroy, his daughter.
