The Alvin Sun and Advertiser was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award during the annual Alvin-Manvel Chamber of Commerce awards banquet in February.
The newspaper was honored in the category of a business that has been serving the community for more than 130 years. Managing Editor Kathleen Holton accepted the award.
“This is such a tremendous honor for the Alvin Sun and the staff who have dedicated so much to its success,” Holton said. “We are proud and honored to be recognized for providing a newspaper that serves our readers as well as our faithful advertisers.”

The 23rd International Symposium on Online Journalism (ISOJ) is scheduled April 1 and 2 at the University of Texas at Austin and online.
The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, which hosts the annual event, is offering a discounted registration rate of $100 (regular fee is $250) for in-person attendance to any staff member of a TPA member publication.

GREENVILLE – CNHI has promoted Lisa Chappell, a veteran Texas publisher, to regional executive for the company’s newspapers in North Texas and five others in Oklahoma.
Chappell presently serves as publisher for the Greenville Herald-Banner and its Texas sister newspapers papers in Gainesville, Royse City, Rockwall County, Weatherford and Cleburne.
Her new role will include working with The Ada News, The Duncan Banner, Pauls Valley Democrat, McAlester News-Capital and Woodward News, all in Oklahoma.
SEALY – Former general manager Amy Lieb has been promoted to publisher of The Sealy News.
Lieb started at The News as bookkeeper/office manager and has maintained the bookkeeping responsibilities while climbing the leadership ladder for nearly five years at the paper.
