Standard Deluxe and Single Lock Records debut the ALABAMA BOOGIE, sponsored by Alabama Tourism, at Sam’s Town Point in Austin, Texas     

WAVERLY, Alabama – From the most interesting and misunderstood little piece of America come the fine people of Standard Deluxe and Single Lock Records. Together, they’re excited to debut the ALABAMA BOOGIE, sponsored by Alabama Tourism, in Austin, Texas, at everyone’s favorite South Austin haunt – Sam’s Town Point. This grand collision of music, featuring 15 bands from Alabama and other southern locales, will take place across two stages from 2:00 p.m. to Midnight on Friday, March 20. Even though South by Southwest was cancelled, the ALABAMA BOOGIE is still scheduled to take place.

Attendees to the all-day event will experience the hospitality of Standard Deluxe and the talent of Single Lock Records’ artists, revealing a side of Alabama typically overlooked – one that values community, understanding, and the role art plays in uniting people. Furthermore, it is important to foster creative partnerships across the South, connecting this often-misrepresented region. The lineup of artists at the ALABAMA BOOGIE illustrates just that – the synergy of friends coming together from Alabama to Texas, and many places in between.

Austin favorite, Shinyribs, is no stranger to performing in Alabama, and is included in the day’s lineup. Frontman Kevin Russell said, “Sam’s Town Point and Standard Deluxe are like blood and chocolate – a holy mole of high rollers. They got a gnosis symbiosis by osmosis. All I know is I love ‘em both.”

Standard Deluxe makes its home in Waverly, Alabama, a town of less than 200 residents. In the past 30 years, it has established itself as a guidepost for creative arts in the Southeast, including the renowned design and print shop, the intimate Little House listening venue, and a variety of outdoor event experiences such as the Old 280 Boogie, featuring musicians, visual artists, and chefs. Some of the most magical nights of music in the South happen amongst the tall Alabama pines on the gorgeous grounds of Standard Deluxe. Now, that same magic is making its way across I-10 to Austin.

Single Lock Records is an independent record label dedicated to releasing an eclectic and diverse collection of Southern American music. The Single Lock catalog doesn’t fit neatly into a specific genre, but neither does Southern music. Based in historic Florence/Muscle Shoals, Alabama, their work is informed by the history of the area — a storied place that values great songs and great musicians. The lineup for the ALABAMA BOOGIE is a selection of artists curated by Single Lock, including both artists signed to the label and long-time friends.

“Any time we at Single Lock can be a part of showcasing the infinite talent in our state, we most definitely will. This will be an event not to be missed,” said John Paul White, Alabama musician and Co-Founder of Single Lock Records.

Alabama artists have a great deal to add to national and global conversations addressing important societal issues, and this event will exhibit some of Alabama’s homegrown, forward-thinking, arts-loving, community-building change-makers. In order for there to be progress, communities must grow together, lifting everyone up, collectively – the intention of this fun day of art, music, good food and good vibes in Austin!
