Lawson assumes publisher duties for Archer County News

ARCHER CITY – Archer County News Editor Nathan Lawson has been promoted to publisher.
Lawson joined the newspaper in June 2020 and succeeds Jerry Phillips, who has chosen to move into a reduced role with the newspaper. Phillips said he will still be heavily involved in the community and will continue to serve as community interests reporter for the newspaper.
“I’m very optimistic that we’re turning the paper over to very capable and talented people and they should publish the paper for the next 100 years,” Phillips said. “It’s been a joy covering the community for the last decade-plus.”
The new publisher will keep his role as editor of the paper and continue to lay out the paper, cover local meetings and tell the stories of the people of Archer County. In the publisher position, he will take over the business operations of the paper and lead it towards its goal of a larger paper.
During his tenure as editor, the newspaper’s staff has grown from three to seven employees.
A 2018 honors graduate of Texas Tech University, Lawson began his career as a staff writer for The Graham Leader and later served as news director for the Jacksboro Herald-Gazette. He grew up in San Antonio, where he interned with KENS 5 and KSAT 12 TV.
