MIDLAND – Retired Midland Reporter-Telegram writer James Edwin “Ed” Todd, 80, died Aug. 30 at his home in Midland. 
Todd attended Midwestern University in Wichita Falls and earned a master’s degree from East Texas State College in Commerce. He served in the U.S. Army in the mid-late 1950s, stationed in France as a radio technician. 
Todd moved to Midland in 1974 to work for the Midland Reporter-Telegram, where his style of old school, no-nonsense journalism was popular with readers. He was considered a role model by generations of journalists who worked with him and was remembered by many of them as a cherished and lifetime friend.
He retired from the newspaper in 2003 and continued to make his home in Midland.
He is survived by two brothers and several nieces and nephews.
