Bruce Wayne Beal

WEIMAR – A memorial service for Bruce Wayne Beal, owner, publisher and editor of the Weimar Mercury, was held Jan. 13 at the First United Methodist Church of Weimar.
He died Jan. 7 in Houston, at the age of 68. 
Beal was born July 6, 1949, to Clyde Beal and Ruth Gieseke Beal in Dallas. He grew up in Dallas and Sweetwater before his family moved to Houston, where he graduated from Spring Woods High School. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a journalism degree in 1971. 
He spent the first two years of his career as a reporter at the Abilene Reporter-News. He then moved to San Antonio to be a reporter, later an editor, at the San Antonio Light, where he worked for 19 years. 
He met Lynda Sweet while working in San Antonio and they were married Dec. 17, 1977. In 1993 they purchased the Weimar Mercury. 
Beal was a member and past president of the Weimar School Board and Weimar Rotary Club. He also served in various leadership capacities at the First United Methodist Church of Weimar and as a liaison between the church and Weimar Boy Scouts. 
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, two grandchildren and other relatives.
