Texas Press Messenger to be digital-only starting in 2026
Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, the Texas Press Messenger will become a digital-only newspaper.
For several years, Texas Press Association has been delivering its monthly newspaper to members the first of each month both digitally and in print. Since almost every print copy is an out-of-county mail piece, the delay in delivery is frequently three to four weeks.
At the TPA summer board meeting, Executive Director Mike Hodges sought approval to eliminate the print copy in lieu of an enhanced digital edition. Noting the cost savings that the association would realize, coupled with the futility of on-time delivery, the board agreed with the change.
The new user-friendly digital version of the Messenger will feature an interface provided through PageSuite – a vendor used by many of TPA’s daily newspapers. Readers will be able to easily navigate each page on any cellphone, tablet or computer.
In addition, the page proportions will be modified so that members may print the Messenger on their personal printers using 8-1/2 x 11 paper. These print copies can be easily shared with staff members and others, and subscribers may share the digital link as well.
Hodges encourages all members to be sure TPA has an up-to-date email address on file for each person who desires a copy of the monthly periodical. Email Candace Velvin at cvelvin@texaspress.com to be sure your listing is correct.
The Texas Press Messenger debuted 100 years ago as a 6 x 9 pamphlet. In 1932 the publication was expanded to an 8-1/2 x 11 full-size magazine. The publication was converted to a tabloid print newspaper format in 1971.
The 2026 move to digital publication is in step with much of the newspaper industry.
