TCCJ plans second broadcast news workshop
STEPHENVILLE – With the May workshop “Broadcast News for the Community Newspaper” filled, the Texas Center for Community Journalism is planning a second session on the same topic in early fall.
The June workshop filled within 24 hours of the opening of registration April 6.
“Demand for this skillset is high because community newspaper can no longer afford to not include video on their websites,” TCJ Director Austin Lewter said.
Even though the May session is filled, everyone interested is encouraged to register and get a spot on the waiting list.
The waiting list will be used to fill cancellations of the May session and everyone on the current waiting list will be automatically enrolled in the fall session once a date is confirmed and registration set.
The “Broadcast News for the Community Newspaper” workshops will teach attendees how to improve video content at their community newspapers.
Topics include equipment needed, content programming, production, distribution and monetizing videos.
Attendees “will learn from Emmy, Peabody and Edward R. Murrow Award winning broadcasters who all have roots in community news,” Lewter said.
“We’ll discuss how to localize national stories, write best for broadcast and ask questions that resonate on video. You will come away with a concrete plan to make video work for you.”
Through sponsorship from the Texas Newspaper Foundation and Texas Press Service, TCCJ workshops are free to TPA members, including sessions, hotel accommodations and meals.
The workshop will be held on the Fort Worth campus of Tarleton University, the host campus for TCCJ.
