NEW BOSTON – Bowie County native and award winning journalist Heather Russell has been named publisher of the Bowie County Citizens Tribune.
Russell first came to the Tribune five years ago, and has since won awards both for her writing and photography skills, including a photographer of the year award from the North and East Texas Press Association for a photo she took of the butterfly garden at Little Country Greenhouse.
Over the last two years, Russell has transitioned to management roles at the newspaper, including a stint as office manager/ bookkeeper and then as general manager in 2021.
“Heather has long been an asset to the community and to our newspaper here in Bowie County, and I have no doubt that the deep-rooted traditions of community service and an emphasis on local news and our schools will continue under her leadership,” Former Tribune publisher Kenny Mitchell said.
