Texas Newspaper Foundation President Greg Shrader said golfers should assemble at 1:20 p.m. for 2 p.m. tee time Thursday, June 20, at the Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course in Fredericksburg.
“We’ll all tee off at 2 p.m. so all golfers will complete play about the same time,” Shrader said. Green fees are $100 per golfer, with proceeds benefiting the foundation and its programs in mid-career training for Texas journalists.
The Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course has been a Hill Country favorite for decades. Opened as a nine-hole municipal course in 1969, it attracted locals and visitors alike looking for an accessible, comfortable level of play. In 1991, it was expanded into an 18-hole course, offering golfers greater variety and challenge. Several years ago, the course went through a $2 million renovation, including lengthening the course, re-contoured fairways, a new set of tee boxes and concrete cart paths.
The course is 6,686 yards long with a par of 71. Fairways have been sculpted to reward good shot placement. Greens are firm and fast. The course now has 46 bunkers and water on 10 of the 18 holes.
