John Wells named publisher of Kerrville Daily Times

KERRVILLE – The Kerrville Daily Times has a new publisher with a small-town upbringing, a love of tight-knit communities and an appreciation for what the Texas Hill Country represents.

John Wells came to Kerrville from Bainbridge, Georgia, where he has served as publisher of The Post-Searchlight newspaper.

“I’m excited about this opportunity,” Wells said. “We really believe Kerrville is a special place. I live in a small town, grew up in a small town — that’s what we were looking for.”

Wells, a University of Alabama alum with a deep background in digital advertising and promotions, said it was important to be in a place that had a strong sense of community.

“It’s a good feeling when you can be out in the area and see readers — talk with them, interact with them. I’m looking forward to being involved.”

Wells said The Kerrville Daily Times — like all good newspapers — belongs to the community.

“This isn’t my paper,” he said. “This is the community’s newspaper. We’re focused on community and connecting and serving that audience the best way possible.”

The strong economic foundation in Kerrville also served as a draw for Wells, who said that it helps lay the groundwork for the community to succeed in a way that others might struggle.

“It feels like the right place to be,” he said.

Leonard Woolsey, president of Southern Newspapers, the parent company for The Kerrville Daily Times, welcomed Wells.

“He brings tremendous energy, enthusiasm and a developed sense of digital sales skills — and I am confident he’ll elevate our team in Kerrville and become an important contributor,” Woolsey said.

Wells and his wife Alison have two children, Ethan, 3, and Riley, age seven months.
