Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas opens conference registration

AUSTIN – Registration is open for the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas annual state conference on Friday, Sept. 13, in Austin.

The conference brings together journalists, government leaders, attorneys and interested citizens to delve into current issues regarding government transparency and free speech. 

The foundation also honors FOI heroes with the James Madison Award and outstanding journalism with the Spirit of FOI Award. Recent honorees have included Bill Girdner, editor of Courthouse News Service; Ross Ramsey, veteran Texas journalist, retired from Texas Tribune Patrick Canty, publisher of the Odessa American; First Amendment Attorney Laura Prather;  

This year’s conference will be held at the Hilton Austin, 500 E. Fourth St., in Austin. Register for the event as an individual attendee or sign up for a sponsorship and invite a group of people to the full day of sessions and the John Henry Faulk Awards Luncheon. Details on the agenda and speakers will be released soon.

Hotel rooms for the night of Thursday, Sept. 12, are available at the Hilton at a conference rate of $259 plus tax. The cutoff date for obtaining this rate is Aug. 13.
