Newspaper veteran Jim Beaver named Boerne Star publisher

Jim Beaver has assumed duties as publisher of The Boerne Star, part of Granite Publications.
Beaver has been with Granite for 12 years, first heading the group’s website sales program and later working with various newspapers in improving sales. Most recently he served as publisher of the Elgin Courier for two years.
His career spans 41 years, including working with newspapers and websites in Texas, Missouri and Mississippi.
Beaver started his newspaper career in 1979 with the Daily News Democrat in Festus, Missouri. A few years later, he went to South Texas to work at the Mid-Valley Town Crier, Over the next 20 years, he also published The Light and Champion in Center followed by stints in Batesville, Mississippi and Perryville, Missouri.
Moving to St. Louis, he worked for the Suburban Journal newspapers in St. Louis, owned by Lee Enterprises, which allowed him to return to Festus to manage a twice-weekly newspaper with 60,000 circulation. He joined Granite after that newspaper was sold.
Beaver and his wife Penny recently celebrated 46 years of marriage. She is a pediatric nurse. They have two children and three grandchildren. 
Reflecting on the newspaper’s 115-year history covering Boerne, Beaver said he is looking forward to helping the newspaper grow in its second century and being involved in the community.
