The Norman Transcript seeks an experienced editor versed in print and digital journalism for our top newsroom position in one of Oklahoma’s newsiest communities.

The editor is responsible for news and opinion content for our seven-day, 8,000-circulation newspaper, digital platforms, bi-monthly magazine and other niche publications.

Applicants need a collaborative newsroom management style, a passion for local news, strong editing and writing skills, and the ability to drive significant enterprise journalism. We also require proven ability to communicate clearly up, down and across; organize time and plan efficiently; set high standards, and motivate the staff to produce journalism readers want, need and value.

The editor directs a staff of 12 journalists and is a key member of the paper’s senior management team, with a strong voice in strategic initiatives to engage audience and drive results.

Norman is 20 miles south of Oklahoma City and the home of the University of Oklahoma. It features an excellent public school system, the National Weather Center, a vibrant economy and many recreational and cultural activities.

The Kerrville Daily Times seeks an experienced journalist to lead its 9-person newsroom.

The Managing Editor leads day-to-day planning and publishing of the Monday-Saturday newspaper, website, monthly lifestyles magazine, and variety of other special sections and products.

The ideal candidate is above all a strong and thoughtful leader, planner, and coach. The position requires excellent news judgment, skill in making assignments, editing content for readability and relevance, and developing young reporters in storytelling and beat reporting. 

The managing editor will lead daily morning pitch sessions with reporters, oversee editorial page content, assign and edit stories, and assist in the daily editing and production of news pages and social media posting. Some InDesign and layout skills are beneficial, but not required. Strong knowledge of Associated Press style necessary.

The ideal candidate should be a collaborative leader interested in helping and developing others. The Managing Editor is an essential member of our organization's leadership team and should have a postive, team-oriented attitude and service mindset.

The Kerrville Daily Times seeks an experienced copy editor/page designer to assist with layout of daily news pages and special sections. 

Candidates must have excellent skills in line editing and ability to layout pages on daily deadlines. The ideal candidate is organized, meticulous with details, and able to work calmly and efficiently under pressure. We are looking for someone who strives for both accuracy and visual impact in their design and is always looking for ways to help others and the team shine. 

The right addition to our team is someone who is self-motivated and takes personal pride and ownership in their work, but stays flexible, collaborative and is committed to helping others. 

Experience with InDesign, Photoshop, and AP style are essential. Willingness to work evening hours and commitment to maintaining a team-oriented, service mindset is required.

The Newscaster writes and delivers live newscasts for Texas stations. The Newscaster is responsible for creating three newscasts each weekday, ensuring that content is refreshed as news warrants and stories are updated as they develop. They conduct interviews, collect sound, write copy and announce live and recorded versions of the stories for air. The newscaster also reports statewide stories and produces spots for use in local and national newscasts and generates content for digital platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize, craft, and anchor live newscasts.
  • Report daily stories for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Collect audio and write scripts for newscasts and stories for digital platforms.
  • Work collaboratively with stations across Texas and with a national newscast.

Required Skills:

  • At least two years in journalism.
  • Experience as a newscaster.
  • Excellent writing and reporting skills for both audio and digital platforms.
  • Polished broadcast presentation and sound.
  • Strong news judgment, ensuring fairness and accuracy, and adhering to ethical standards.
  • Commitment to showcasing diverse voices and viewpoints.
  • Ability to turn material quickly and respond to breaking news.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance required for assignments/activities that involve work outside of the office.
  • Must maintain a clean driving record.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required; media or journalism degree preferred

Preferred Skills:

  • Public media experience, particularly in newscast production.
  • Experience working in collaborative organizations.
  • Spanish-language skills are a plus.
