Hood County News welcomes Nelson as executive editor
GRANBURY - Richard Nelson has joined Hyde Media Group, as executive editor for the hood County News in Granbury.
Publisher Sam Houston announced the appointment, noting Nelson’s experience in publishing newspapers and supervising press rooms “will give us an edge.” He also noted Nelson’s knowledge of “handing hard news, features, sports and every aspect of the newspaper business will make us a stronger, better and more readable paper.”
Most recently, Nelson was group publisher for The Media News, a twice-weekly, Grosbeak Journal, Teague Chronicle and Fairfield Recorder, all weeklies.
He began his career at this hometown newspaper, The Baytown Sun. Early in his career, Nelson traveled across Texas working and climbing the ranks at community newspapers throughout the state. He has worked in many areas of community journalism, including daily, semiweekly and weekly newspapers and monthly magazines.
Nelson said he found his niche in community newspapers after working five years in advertising for the Houston Post. “When it closed I found my way back into small-town newsrooms, he said.
Nelson said he is eager for the opportunity to concentrate on making one newspaper the best it can be.
“I have been reading Hood County News for a while,” Nelson said. “It’s already a solid community newspaper. The staff members all seem dedicated to their craft and seem excited to do more to make this the best community newspaper.”
