• Navigating career uncertainty: Guidance for Journalists, Sept. 18, 1-2 p.m.
The media landscape is rapidly changing. To help journalists navigate career changes with confidence, Bridget Thoreson will lead a frank discussion of the limitations of linear models for career success in today’s working world. She will cover strategies for recognizing and responding to burnout, how to define progress, advice from news professionals who have navigated being laid off and building skills to take on new roles.

ProJourn (Protecting Journalists), in partnership with the American Journalism Project and the International Women’s Media Foundation, is presenting a series of trainings on journalists’ legal rights and security this fall.

• Newsgathering Legal Rights, Sept. 10, 1-2 p.m.
Jen Nelson, senior staff attorney at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, will cover topics such as the law of trespass, the right to record and interacting with law enforcement. This training is relevant to all journalists and editors.
• Demystifying Digital Security: Practical Guidance for Journalists, Sept. 23, 11 a.m.-noon
Led by Ela Stapley of the International Women’s Media Foundation, this session will teach you how to identify your own digital risks and provide practical steps to identifying and removing data online. This training is relevant to staff journalists, freelance journalists, and editors/newsroom leaders.
• Physical Safety Training, Sept. 24, 12-1:30 p.m.
Jeff Belzil, Security Director at the International Women’s Media Foundation, will cover topics including identity-aware risk assessments and how to report safely on law enforcement activities and during times of civil unrest in the US. This training is relevant to staff journalists, freelance journalists, and editors/newsroom leaders.

• Beat Academy: The states, Trump and democracy, Sept. 18, noon-1:15 p.m.
This free, 75-minute webinar covers tools to connect federal decisions to local stories.
Participants will learn how to track and interpret federal actions to connect the dots between national policy shifts and the realities local audiences face. Presenters will break down the legal frameworks at play, show how state governments can push back or comply, and offer practical tools to localize complex national stories.
