Excellence in Journalism Conference set in San Antonio

The Society of Professional Journalists 2019 Excellence in Journalism conference is scheduled Sept. 5 - 7 in San Antonio.
Partners in the conference are the Radio Television Digital News Association and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
The conference provides journalists with the industry’s best training and networking opportunities. In addition to training sessions, the event features a large journalism expo and career fair.
The Grand Hyatt on Market Street is headquarters for events, though organizers expect attendees will fill many San Antonio hotels that weekend.
Workshops and break-out sessions will cover a variety of topics, including data research, obtaining public records, newsroom leadership and diversity, audience measuring techniques, investigative journalism, finding grants for investigative journalism projects, using technical tools, podcasting, managing stress social media guidelines and many other issues.
Also featured are additional training opportunities by groups such as the American Copy Editors Society and NBC University.
Special events will include awards programs. RTDNA will present awards to San Antonio natives Scott Pelley and John Quiñones, both veteran broadcast anchors/reporters.
The J-Expo and Career Fair features more than 50 national media companies and universities.
Registration information, workshop descriptions and full schedule are available at the conference website, www.excedllenceinjournalism.org. Journalism students may apply for scholarship, internship and fellowships to attend.
