Clara Jo Davis

Clara Jo Davis died Sunday, June 7, 2015 in Athens.

She was a community news writer for the Athens Daily Review for more than 30 years covering the Cross Roads and Shady Oaks areas. Those writings reflected her passion of food, church and her friends.

In January 2013, Davis was honored by the Texas House of Representatives with House Resolution No. 116 which describes “her weekly columns, which centered on the Cross Roads and Shady Oak areas, were widely admired and appreciated, and subscribers benefited every issue from her wide-ranging reminiscences and from her helpful updates on community life.”

Jim Eaton

Jim Eaton, 91, died June 3, 2015 in Abilene.

Eaton was oil editor for the Abilene Reporter-News from 1962 until retiring in 1986. He had covered oil field activities since joining the newspaper in 1951. 

He graduated from Peacock High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy when Pearl Harbor was attacked in 1941. 

He graduated from McMurry College in 1949 with a journalism degree and Oklahoma A&M University in 1950 with a master’s degree. He joined the Reporter-News in May 1951 after nine months with the Paris, Texas, News.
