Stephanie Michelle Cherry Sandoval died Nov. 16, 2015. She was a reporter for the Dallas Morning News until 2009.

She attended the University of Texas at Arlington. She began working at the Grand Prairie Daily News, part of Dallas-Fort Worth Suburban Newspapers Inc., in 1996 In 2000, she was transferred to The News, when the newspaper consolidated its suburban operations into the Dallas daily.

“Stephanie was a great competitor,” said Mede Nix, the city/regional editor at The News and the one who edited her work for several years.“She excelled getting people to talk to her. She hated to get beat on a story and she rarely did.”

During her time at The News, she covered Grand Prairie, Carrollton and Farmers Branch.

“Mayors are not supposed to like reporters, but I liked her a lot,” said former Grand Prairie Mayor Charles England. “She knew how to get a story.

“I trusted her. ... I couldn’t say that about all the reporters I dealt with in 21 years,” he said. “But I could say it about her, without question.”
