1965-66 Winn Crossley Madisonville Meteor

Winneford B. "Winn" Crossley, 88th president, got started on his newspaper career when the advertising manager of the Eastland Daily Tribune hired him as an assistant.

He stayed in Eastland until he purchased a half interest in the Hamilton County News. A few months later he released his partnership agreement and returned to Eastland as advertising manager and bookkeeper of the Ranger Daily Times.

In April 1936 Crossley bought the Roscoe Times, which he edited and published before moving to Pilot Point in 1945 to take over the Pilot Point Post-Signal.

He bought the Madisonville Meteor in 1948 and sold the Pilot Point Post-Signal.

On one of his most memorable trips he went with a group of Texas newspapermen to Hawaii as guest of then-Secretary of the Navy John B. Connally, a trip arranged for the directors of Texas Press Association.

He was president of Texas Gulf Coast Press Association in 1957-58.
