Best of 2016: Better Newspaper Contest opens Feb. 15

The best examples of journalism and community service are celebrated each year through the Texas Press Association Better Newspaper Contest.

This year, the contest entry period opens Feb. 15. TPA members are invited to upload entries through the Texas BNC online contest platform. Deadline for entries is 5 p.m. March 23.

Winners will be announced at the TPA Newspaper Leadership Retreat in June.

Members are encouraged to start selecting their best work from 2016. Updated contest rules will be available at the Midwinter Convention and Trade Show later this month. Rules will be also be available online soon.

Annual contests are made possible with the help of other press associations across the country, which participate in a contest swap to judge one another’s competitions. TPA’s partner this year is the Louisiana Press Association. LPA’s Better Newspaper Contest is also a spring competition and Texas judges are needed to evaluate the entries.

Judging contests is one of the best ways to see what makes a newspaper stand out and pick up ideas for your own publication. Publishers, editors, designers, writers and advertising representatives could all benefit from the opportunity to see the best work LPA members have to offer.
