The annual Summer Revenue Workshop conducted by the Texas Center for Community Journalism has been re-scheduled this year.
For the past two years, the event has been held in June. Due COVID-19 concerns and social distancing rules in public settings, the event was rescheduled for Friday, Aug. 14 at the Hangar Hotel in Fredericksburg. Registration information will be released soon.
The annual Robert Burns Memorial Golf Tournament will precede the event on Thursday, Aug. 13. Golfers will gather at the Lady Bird Golf Course, adjacent to the Fredericksburg airport. The annual golf tournament benefits the Texas Newspaper Foundation and programs such as the Summer Revenue Workshop. The conference is free but registration is limited. More details and registration information will be released soon.
Regional press groups
Rescheduled conventions for the South Texas Press Association and the Texas Gulf Coast Press Association are set for August.
South Texas Press members will meet Aug. 6-8 at Emerald Beach Hotel in Corpus Christi. Registration is open now with more information available at www.stpa.com. Scheduled speakers include ad sales consultant Mike Blinder, now publisher of Editor and Publisher magazine, and Ken Ellis, graphic artist with the Houston Chronicle.
Texas Gulf Coast Press members will meet Aug. 27-29 at the Marriott in Sugar Land.
Both conventions will include award presentations in the regional Better Newspaper Contests.
Registration open now for FOIFT conference
Early registration is now open for the Texas Freedom of Information Foundation’s Bernard and Audre Rapoport Annual Conference, set Sept. 24 at the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center in Austin.
Panel discussions on current issues and government transparency are featured, as well as guest speakers. Highlighting the annual event is the John Henry Faulk Awards Luncheon, during which the James Madison award is presented for outstanding commitment to upholding the principles of the First Amendment and open government. Also, the foundation recognizes lawmakers for their work on legislation protecting government transparency through the Texas Open Meetings Act and the Texas Open Records Act.
The event also includes presentation of the Nancy Monson Spirit of FOI Awards recognizing outstanding coverage by broadcasters and newspapers in promoting open government and the public’s right to know.

TPA Convention and Trade Show
The 2021 Texas Press Association Convention and Trade Show is scheduled Jan. 21-23, 2021, in Denton.
The annual event returns to the Embassy Suites by Hilton Denton Convention Center, 3100 Town Center Trail, in Denton.
The annual includes a general membership meeting, board election and installation of officers for the association. In addition, Texas newspaper industry luminaries will be inducted into the Texas Newspaper Hall of Fame and awards will be presented in the 2019-20 Texas Better Newspaper Contest.
The event also features speakers and programs on industry issues and a trade show featuring dozens of vendors with displays and demonstrations, as well as the annual silent auction benefiting the Texas Newspaper Foundation.
