Job Requirements:

-Bachelor’s degree in journalism related field.
- At least 1 year of experience, an internship is valid.

Duties and Responsibilities:

-Establish and build strong working relationships with education officials – primary and higher education.
-Establish and build strong working relationships with parents of school district students.
-Be a watchdog for public education.
-Know and understand education issues for public and private schools as well as higher education.
-Explore and write stories about specific issues in education and how they affect the region.
-Know how to and be willing to file open records requests for documents.
-Cover the smaller schools outside of Victoria County.
-Be a positive influence in the newsroom and while in the public representing the Advocate.
-Do the best job you possibly can daily.
-Be honest, fair, transparent and respectful.
-Perform other various duties as assigned.

The Taos News is seeking a Digital Editor to join our team. The successful candidate will assist in the production, distribution and marketing of written and multimedia content for taosnews.com and discovertaos.com.

As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for gathering news updates from reporters, teasing and pushing alerts, implementing engagement features, managing social media, and managing the homepage. Working in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment, often on several projects simultaneously, requires this person to be a strong multi-tasker, with exceptional communication skills. Someone with determination, a keen eye for detail, a firm grasp of the English language and the ability to meet tight deadlines is essential.

We are looking for a candidate who possesses strong news judgment, copy editing skills, familiarity with content management systems and a strong knowledge of how to reach out to a large audience on social media. Above all we are looking for a driven, creative candidate who works well under pressure and has a passion for the future of digital journalism. Must be flexible and able to work a variety of shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Also, the candidate will be working closely with the ad department with digital projects and various social media and reader engagement contests.

Customer service for digital subscribers and work closely with our website provider with any issues that may come up.
Test links, click-through site navigation and articles.
Editing, posting and creating web-based content from materials gathered by photographers and reporters.
Work closely with editor on positioning “top stories” for the website.
Ensure Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social platforms are updated throughout the day.
Monitor comments on social media.
Daily newsletter publishing. Create daily newsletter emails, monitor newsletter ads and add email subscribers to our lists.
Upload special sections in CMS, e-edition and ISSUU.com.
Web ad reporting. Run weekly ad web ad impression reports from our websites, send Facebook and Google stats to advertisers.
Analytics reporting. Website analytics, track digital subscribers and social media audience.
Monitor and handle the backend for the annual Best of Taos contest and various state and national contest entries.
