1883-84 W.M. Yandell Guadalupe Times

Dr. William Martin Yandell, 3rd president, was born near Murfreesboro, Tenn., in 1842. He was a medical doctor who served in the Army of the Confederacy and retired as a colonel in 1865 at age 23. He moved to Mexico after the war and eventually located in Texas. He was owner and editor of the Guadalupe Times, a newspaper in Seguin that he acquired in 1870. He was named editor of the San Angelo Enterprise in 1878. Yandell's Texas Press Association membership began at the second annual convention in May 1881, and he was elected president of the association in 1883.

He was noted for his advocacy of clean drinking water and sewage systems and served as state quarantine officer under three Texas governors: James S. Hogg, Charles A. Culberson and Joseph D. Sayers. Yandell moved to El Paso in 1887 and died in 1900.
