USPS proposes end to manual card option

The U.S. Postal Service published a proposed rule in the Federal Register on July 19 to eliminate the manual card option for electronic address sequencing service in January 2011. This service has been one of the options available to obtain address sequencing, which is required to claim enhanced carrier route rates. The agency is stating that only a limited number of mailers have been using this option and a more efficient electronic process is available at the same cost. Comments relating to this change must be submitted by Aug. 18.

Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, Domestic Mail Manual (DMM) 507.8, Electronic Address Sequencing (EAS) Service, will be revised.
