Louis C. Elbert, Galveston News-Tribune, 1935-36
Louis C. Elbert was best known as vice president and general manager of the Galveston News-Tribune, a position he held until his retirement in 1946. Elbert, 58th president, was born in Galveston on Jan. 11, 1886, and at age 14 went to work for a stationery company. In 1909 he joined the circulation department of the Galveston News. Soon he was transferred to the advertising department as a clerk and later kept books and eventually landed a job as cub reporter. Some years later, he was named vice president and general manager. Elbert married in 1919. He once served as vice president of the Texas Publishers’ Association.
