W.C. Edwards, Denton Record Chronicle 1912-13

W.C. Edwards, 34th president, was born in Courtland, Ala., Aug. 1, 1879, but moved to Texas in 1883. He entered the newspaper business as a cub reporter on the Denton Record-Chronicle in 1896 but a few years later became editor and chief stockholder.

He was publisher of the Washington, D.C., Herald in 1927, and held a managerial position with the Georgian, at Atlanta, retaining his interest in the Denton Record-Chronicle.

Edwards served two terms in the Texas House of Representatives and lacked only a few votes of election as lieutenant governor in 1924.

He married Nettie Williams in 1899. They had four children. He joined Texas Press Association in 1905.
