Harry Koch, 40th president, was born in Holland. When he turned 21 he came to the United States and after prospecting for three years moved to Quanah.

He purchased the Quanah Chief in 1891 and three years later acquired the Quanah Tribune. He consolidated the two papers under the name Tribune-Chief in 1897. His oldest son, Anton, worked with him at the Tribune-Chief as advertising manager. The Koch family owned the newspaper until 1978.
