The Palestine Herald-Press in historic Palestine, Texas, seeks an enterprising and creative page designer and copy editor to layout and design our award-winning, five-day-a-week newspaper. We seek someone with fresh ideas who loves to try new things and can help us improve our online presence, as well as deliver a more dynamic, creative, and engaging design for the print product. Our aggressive, rapidly improving newsroom wants improvements in design that match the significant progress we've made in content over the last nine months. Knowledge of Quark and experience in page design are preferred, but we will train the right person. Besides laying out, the successful candidate will serve as a copy editor -- a second set of eyes for copy, after it leaves the editor. Hours vary somewhat but, in general, you will start at about 2 p.m. and leave the office at about 10 p.m., Monday through Friday. The person who fills this position will work closely with the editor. We offer competivite benefits, as well as a demanding but flexible, freewheeling, and fun work environment. If interested, send a resume, cover letter, and, if possible, several design samples to Editor Jeff Gerritt at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 903.729.0281, Ext. 256.
