M. Roberts Media is seeking experienced, creative copy editors/page designers for its central production desk, which prepares content to appear in print and online for its daily and twice-weekly newspapers.
Reporting to the news editor, the copy editor/page designer must have sound news judgment; exceptional editing, headline writing and page design skills; and the ability to do high-quality work at a fast pace for the news, sports and features pages of our newspapers and websites.
The successful candidate thrives under pressure; is a stickler for details, especially for accuracy, clarity and legality; snaps out clever headlines that capture the stories and hook readers; and delivers sharp, clean pages quickly and efficiently.
We need editors with a visual eye, curiosity and enthusiasm who can make reader-centered decisions about content and packaging.
Candidates must possess excellent grammar skills and proficiency in AP style, as well as experience using standard web and print publishing software. Experience with InDesign, Photoshop and knowledge of SEO are a plus. A test of technical design skills and copy editing will be required.
Two years of professional experience is preferred, but recent graduates with strong clips from internship or college newspaper work will be considered.
This is a full-time evening position with some weekend work required.
Candidates must be able to successfully complete a background check and drug screen.
