Gannett Reaches Deal to Buy Journal Media - WSJ

[[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"1802","attributes":{"class":"media-image alignleft","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"431","height":"287","alt":""}}]]According to the Wall Street Journal, today's announcement of Gannett Co.'s agreement to buy Journal Media Group is a sign of a long-awaited round of consolidation.

JMG was created this year from a deal between E.W. Scripps and Journal Communications in which they spun off and merged their newspaper operations to form Journal Media Group. JMG oversees print and digital publishing operations in 14 U.S. markets in nine states, including three Texas newspapers - the Abilene Reporter-News, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times and the Wichita Falls Times Record News.

Gannett Co., announced in June it has completed the acquisition of 11 media organizations from Digital First Media, including the El Paso Times.
