Houston County Courier celebrates 125th anniversary

The Houston County Courier staff joined together on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 to celebrate the newspaper’s 125th anniversary.  Houston County Judge Erin Ford presented Alvin Holley, owner and publisher, with a proclamation declaring Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 as Houston County Courier 125th Anniversary Celebration Day.  Linda Parker, district director for State Rep. Trent Ashby, presented Holley with a Texas flag that was flown at the Capitol to commemorate the 125th celebration of the Houston County Courier Newspaper, Crockett,  Texas, the voice of Houston County since 1890. In the Thursday, Jan. 29 issue, the Houston County Courier introduced a series featuring stories published throughout the years, a decade at a time. The two-page spread in the center of the newspaper is intended for pull-out by readers to save with the upcoming segments to form a complete souvenir special section. The special feature will be published the last Thursday of each month for the coming year.
