EVAN GRICE - The Gainesville Daily Register

Jim Perry, publisher of the Gainesville Daily Register, announced Evan Grice as its newspaper’s sports editor.  “I’m pleased to have Evan Grice join our news team,” Perry said. “We are committed to bringing our readers all the local sports and news both in print and online.”  Grice, 26, graduated from West  Texas A&M in Canyon and has experience with both daily and weekly newspapers. 

MIKE WILSON - The Dallas Morning News

Mike Wilson has been announced as the new editor of The Dallas Morning News. Wilson will begin Feb. 16, 2015, succeeding Bob Mong, who is retiring after taking over as editor in June 2001. Wilson joins the Morning News with a distinguished track record as a reporter and author, as well as a digital and print newsroom leader. A proponent of high-quality narrative writing, Wilson currently works with Nate Silver as managing editor of FiveThirtyEight, ESPN’s first-ever publishing effort not dedicated exclusively to sports. “I’m honored to have this opportunity to lead The Dallas Morning News,” Wilson said. Previously, Wilson served as managing editor of the Tampa Bay Times, Florida’s largest newsroom, overseeing a staff of more than 240 journalists. Under his direction, Times’ writers won Pulitzer Prizes in 2009 and 2014, and several others were finalists. In addition, Wilson was part of a team of reporters whose work was recognized as a finalist for a Pulitzer in investigative reporting in 1998. Wilson is the author of two books: Right on the Edge of Crazy (1993), about the U.S. downhill ski team, and The Difference Between God and Larry Ellison (1997), about the CEO of Oracle Corp. A Connecticut native, Wilson graduated from Tufts University in Massachusetts.

CARLINA VILLALPANDO - The Tyler Morning Telegraph

The Kerrville Daily Times Managing Editor Carlina Villalpando announced her resignation after more than 10 years with the newspaper. Villalpando leaves the newspaper to accept the managing editor position at the Tyler Morning Telegraph, a more than 20,000 circulation daily newspaper in East Texas.  “Although Carlina will be missed, this is a great opportunity for her, and I wish her only the best in her new endeavor,” The Times Publisher Mike Graxiola said. “Carlina has been a pleasure to work with these past five years, and I deeply appreciate her hard work and leadership that she provided during that time.”  Villalpando began with The Times as an intern in 2004 and shortly after was offered a job as a reporter. In 2006, she was named features editor and in 2009 she was promoted to managing editor.  “Leaving The Times, my colleagues there, and the people of this community have blessed my life immeasurably, growing me both personally and professionally,” Villalpando said. “I’m excited for this opportunity but am so sad to leave my home here.”
