CNHI provides print public notice house ads

Texas Press Aassociation member newspapers have free access to a new series of ads promoting public notice, thanks to the Greenville Herald-Banner and its corporate parent, Community Newspaper Holdings Inc.

Herald-Banner publisher Lisa Chappell said the ads were prepared as part of a CNHI initiative to heighten public awareness of public notices in newspapers. All TPA members are welcome to use the ads, she added.

Copies of the ads can be downloaded at http://texaspress.com/print-public-notice-ads.

“These are compelling ads that shine a light on how crucial newspaper notice is to government transparency,” said TPA Executive Director Micheal Hodges. “We appreciate Lisa and CNHI making the ads available to TPA, and we encourage our members to run them. With newspaper notice once again under attack in the Legislature, this will generate public support for our position.”

Texas publishers will need to work hard during the upcoming legislative session to defeat House Bill 139, a measure that would eliminate most public notices in newspapers.

The purpose of public notices is to make citizens aware of governmental actions and intent, and there’s no more effective way to notify large numbers of people than with newspapers.

Additionally, when a newspaper is uploaded to the TPA archives at http://archive.texaspress.com, the public notices are automatically transferred to http://www.txlegalnotices.com — where users can search all public notices in Texas in a simple online forum. With the help of these free ads and the online tools, publishers will be well equipped to defend newspaper public notices and to fight House Bill 139 effectively.
