REFUGIO COUNTY – Many of us curse technology because of its failings, but it does have some benefits worth praising.

Local history can’t be found in books or online most of the time. But digitalization and scanning of documents have changed that.

Now, interesting facts can be found about Tivoli or Austwell, Bayside, Woodsboro, Refugio or other communities that came and went like Vidaurri in northern Refugio County.

Researchers can use local history in many ways – economics, population, genealogy, finding out names of community leaders, sports players and teams and much more.

For example, most people in Refugio County remember the miraculous snowfall of Dec. 24, 2004, but that wasn’t the only time snow fell in the county.

Snow also fell and stayed on the ground on Feb. 12, 1960, in Refugio County. How many remember that event?
