ROY KENT, Kerrville Daily Times

KERRVILLE – Roy Kent is the new managing editor at the Kerrville Daily Times.

The appointment was announced by Publisher Jennifer McCullough, who said Kent’s experience will be an asset to the local newspaper and the community it serves.

Ken studied English at Eastern New Mexico University and has nearly 40 years of news experience. He came to Kerrville from the managing editor post at Houston Community newspapers, a division of the Houston Chronicle that includes publications in Houston area suburban communities. He had been with Houston Community Newspapers in many capacities since 2005. Previously, he worked for the El Paso Times, the El Paso Herald-Post, the Roswell Daily Record, the Clovis news Journal and the Las Cruces Sun-News.

DAVID WEBB, Mexia News

MEXIA - Veteran Texas reporter David Webb has joined the staff of the Mexia News.

Editor and Publisher Richard Nelson announced the appointment, noting the staff is “excited to have a reporter with the kind of experience he brings.”

Webb spent most of his carer in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, covering cities, counties, schools and water districts as well as politics, crime, human rights, the airline industry and environmental issues.

He worked for such publications as the Port Aransas South Jetty, Dallas Observer, Dallas Voice, D Magazine, CedarCreekLake.com, Dallas Times Herald, the Valley Morning Star and Dallas-Fort Worth Suburban News.

Webb also was a staff writer and researcher for the Southern Poverty Law Center out of Montgomery, Alabama, where he wrote about hate crimes and hate groups for publications that were distributed to law enforcement agencies, educators and human rights groups.

He graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin in 1983.

He was the recipient of the Excellence in Journalism: North Texas Legends Award from the Press Club of Dallas in 2016.

TRENTON WHITING, EVAN HALE, Colorado County Citizen

COLUMBUS – Promotions at the Colorado County Citizen were announced by Area Publisher Tressa Alley.

Trenton Whiting was promoted from sports editor to managing editor while Evan Hale took over duties as sports editor for the newspaper, which is part of Granite Media Partners.

Alley was joined by Granite Executive Editor Thomas Edwards in praising Whiting’s work as sports editor over the past two years.

Whiting, 25, a University of Houston graduate, covered sports for two years for the Citizen before his promotion in late September. He is a Houston area native from the city of Pearland.

With Whiting’s move to managing editor, Hale takes over the role of covering area athletics for local schools and other sports programs.

“With Trenton and Evan on board, this allows the Citizen to better cover all news and events across the county,” Alley said.

Hale, 25, a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, is no stranger to Texas high school sports. Previously, he served as the sports editor of another Granite newspaper, the Taylor Press.

Hale graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in May 2022 with a degree in journalism.

Prior to joining the Taylor Press, Hale worked for The Acadiana Advocate in Lafayette, covering high schools from Lafayette, Baton Rouge and New Orleans. He also worked at The Vermillion, the school paper for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

BRANDON MALLORY, Pittsburg Gazette

PITTSBURG – Brandon Mallory has joined the staff of the Pittsburg Gazette as staff reporter.

The appointment was announced by Managing Editor Miranda Oglesby,

A native of Northeast Texas, Mallory has resided in Pittsburg since 2011.

JEREMY HALLOCK, C&S Media

SACHSE - C&S Media publications announced Jeremy Hallock is a new staff reporter for The Sachse News and The Wylie News.

Prior to joining the team, Hallock worked in the education sector for seven years before becoming a contributing writer to publications such as The Dallas Morning News, the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Texas Monthly, Houston Chronicle and the Dallas Observer.

RACHEAL CLARK, The Groesbeck Journal

GOESBECK – Racheal Clark is a new reporter for the Groesbeck Journal.

The appointment was announced by Jennifer Paul, general manager, who noted Clark is “not just a new reporter, she is a vibrant addition to our team.”

A native of Groesbeck, she first attended the University of North Texas to study photojournalism in 2009. After living and working in the Waco area, she returned to Groesbeck to attend the local college, where she earned an associate degree and remained active in local theater productions. She later transferred to Texas Tech to pursue a bachelor degree in communications.

With plans to become a high school theater and speech teacher, she pursues her writing career with the Journal.

DYLAN YAWS, Jackson County Herald Tribune

EDNA – Dylan Yaws has joined the staff of the Jackson County Herald Tribune as advertising representative.

With roots in Edna and a background in construction, Yaws’ transition to advertising sales is driven by his pursuit if a bachelor’s degree in business. He views this opportunity as a way to gain valuable experience on the office and sales side of the business world as well as an opportunity to build relationships in the local business community.
