Promotions, staff additions at Texas Newspapers.

FORT WORTH – Michael Ryan, a veteran journalist with 34 years’ experience, has joined the staff of the Fort Worth Star Telegram and star-telegram.com as opinion editor.
Announcing the appointment was Colleen McCain Nelson, opinion editor for McClatchy, the Star-Telegram’s parent company.
Ryan came to Fort Worth from Augusta, Georgia, where he held a similar position with the Augusta Chronicle for 16 years. Previously, he was editorial page editor of the Topeka, Kansas, Capital-Journal, where he also worked as a reporter and columnist. 
His work in both states earned numerous awards.
Nelson said Ryan’s commentary focuses on facts and thoughtful analysis that go beyond partisan talking points. “Under his leadership, the Star-Telegram editorial board will redouble its efforts to lead a community conversation focused on local and state issues that matter to readers,” Nelson said.
Ryan’s primary focus will be on Fort Worth, she said, but he will also play a role in shaping opinion strategy and content in McClatchy’s Central Region. 

TOMMY CULKIN

PARIS – Tommy Culkin recently joined The Paris News staff as a general assignment reporter.
Managing Editor Klark Byrd announced the appointment.
Culkin came to Texas from Clayton, Georgia, where he was the primary reporter for the weekly Clayton Tribune. During more than two years there, he earned recognition from the Georgia Press Association and the newspaper was named the best in its circulation category in 2016.
He is a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, with a bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in communication studies. While at the university, Culkin was a reporter for the student publication, The Appalachian, where he was a finalist for the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Award.

ERIN JUSSEAUME

PARIS – Erin Jusseaume, an Australian journalist who most recently spent time reporting in Northwest Montana, has joined The Paris News editorial department as staff writer.
Managing Editor Klark Byrd announced the appointment.
Jusseaume came to Paris from Sanders County, Montana, just south of the Canadian border. 
While there, she earned several awards from the Montana Newspaper Association for both writing and for Facebook live reporting.
A graduate of James Cook University in Townsville, Australia, she has lived in the United States previously and decided to pursue her career goals here.

BLAINE CLAMON
Athens Daily Review
ATHENS – Kemp native Blaine Clamon has joined the Athens Daily Review as sports reporter, Editor Paul Bryant announced.
After attending Trinity Valley Community College, Clamon graduated from Texas A&M University in 2016. 
He worked as a sports contributor for the Monitor in Mabank, covering Kemp sports.
While covering Kemp High School in the state football semi-finals in 2017, Clamon was recruited to work as a contributor covering Kemp sports for the Athens Daily Review before assuming a full time position in November 2018.
