-- Robin Aaron is the new editor of the Bowie County Citizens Tribune. She previously wrote for a magazine and was a stringer for the Texarkana Gazette.
-- Ted Allen, Duncanville Today sports editor, was inducted into the Duncanville Athletics Hall of Fame Oct. 4. Allen has covered Duncanville sports since May 1967 and has been in the business more than 50 years. He turned 79 recently.
-- Roy Besch is the new sports editor for The Vindicator in Liberty. He most recently worked for The Cleveland Advocate and has more than 30 years experience.
-- Eric Braun is the new executive producer for MySanAntonio.com, the Web site of the San Antonio Express-News in partnership with the local Belo TV station. He came from a group of Michigan dailies.
-- Madilynn Nicole Brisendine was born Sept. 13, weighing 8 pounds, 11 ounces and measuring 20 1/4 inches. She
is the daughter of Brian Brisendine, publisher of the Hereford Brand, and Susan Brisendine. She is the grandchild of Lynn Brisendine, publisher of The Brownfield News and Seminole Sentinel, and Linda Brisendine.
-- J.D. Clark was named editor of the Bridgeport Index and Chico Texan. He joined the staff in summer 2003 as a reporter. He is a junior at the University of North Texas. -- George H. Cogswell III, president and publisher of the Abilene Reporter-News since 2003, is the new president and publisher of the Ventura County (Calif.) Star. Kim Nussbaum, vice president of advertising and marketing, has been named interim president
and publisher.
-- Freddy Heredia joined the sports staff of the Del Rio News-Herald. He worked at the Eagle Pass News Gram in 2004-05 and later for the Del Rio Parks and Recreation Department.
-- Matt Kelton became the new managing editor of the Clay County Leader in Henrietta Aug. 1. He is a Henrietta native and previously worked at The Bowie News as sports editor and assistant editor for almost 10 years. The Leader is published by TPA president Phil Major.
-- Brian Knox has been named editor of the Wise County Messenger in Decatur. Knox has been an assistant editor and reporter for the paper since he graduated from Texas A&M University in Commerce in 2000. He succeeds Skip Nichols, who has been named managing editor of the East Oregonian, a daily newspaper in Pendleton, Ore.
-- Raymond Linex II has been named interim publisher of the Corsicana Daily Sun. Linex joined the Sun in 1992 as a stringer and in 1993 became full time. He was co-sports editor in 1996, left briefly and returned in 1998 as sports editor. He was named managing editor in 2000.
-- Mary Madewell has been named interim managing editor of The Paris News replacing Phillip Hamilton who left recently to purchase The Olton Enterprise. Madewell has been a staff reporter covering education and politics for the past five years and worked for News from 1994-99. Also in Paris, classified manager Dorothy Crawford retired after 27 years of service. In circulation, Ricky Dority has been named circulation supervisor.
-- Roxanne McKnight joined The Madisonville Meteor as news editor. She has more than 14 years writing and editing experience.
-- Tammarrah L. Miles joined the Goldthwaite Eagle as associate editor. She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and worked for a daily in Bradford, Pa.
-- Devin Monk is the new managing editor of the Frisco Enterprise, Little Elm Journal and Celina Record. He was promoted from assistant managing editor to replace Blaine Crimmins. He has been with parent company American Community Newspapers since 1997.
-- M.D. “Doc” Smith is the new sports editor for the Moore County News-Press. He has been a sports correspondent and reporter for the Tyler Morning Telegraph, Jacksonville Daily Progress and Cherokeean Herald in Rusk.
-- Nathan Straus joined the Chandler & Brownsboro Statesman as a news reporter. He attended Abilene Christian University.
-- Matt Tasler is the new sports writer for the Cleburne Times-Review. He took over for Randy McKillip.
-- Two new staff members joined the Taylor Daily Press. Emily Grobe is the new sports editor. She replaced Scott Joiner who is joining a newspaper in Hobbs, N.M. She has been a stringer with the Press since last fall and is pursuing a master’s in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. Leah Fillion is a new reporter. She replaced Tessa Moll who was promoted to managing editor. Fillion has been an editorial intern at Texas Monthly and Texas Family Physician.
-- Sara Vanden Berge is the new managing editor of the Stephenville Empire-Tribune. She began in 2001 as a columnist and came on board full time in 2005 as a
reporter. A year later she was named news editor.
-- Jeremy Weber joined the Winnsboro News as news and sports editor. He previously had a stint as editor at the Bowie County Citizen Tribune and before that was sports editor at the Taylor Daily Press and Thorndale Champion.
-- Deborah Williams joined the Plainview Daily Herald as special projects writer. She graduated in May from Wayland Baptist University with a degree in English and is beginning her master’s this fall.
