Doris Askins

Doris Askins, 76, died Sept. 11 at her Blair home. She wrote the Blair news for the Timpson & Tenaha News.

James Curry

James E. Curry, 63, died Sept. 28 of complications from diabetes and heart disease at Mesquite Medical Center. He worked in distribution for The Dallas Morning News for 18 years and retired in December 1998.

Harold LeBourgeois Jr.

Harold Joseph “Joe” LeBourgeois, Jr., 51, died Sept. 3 in Round Rock after a long battle with cancer.

He was a sports writer for The Houston Post and an avid fan of Houston sports teams the Astros and University of Houston Cougars.

Daniel Monroe Fairly Jr.

Daniel Monroe Fairly Jr., 54, died Sept. 13 in Pasadena.

He was a sports writer for the Beeville Bee-Picayune and was a stringer for newspapers in Corpus Christi, Victoria and San Antonio.

Wayne T. Patrick

Wayne T. Patrick, 66, died Sept. 20 after a long battle with cancer.

He owned the Palestine Herald Press until selling it to Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. in 1998.

His father, Talbot Patrick, owned and published the Evening Herald in Rock Hill, S.C. and Wayne Patrick began working with him at an early age. He worked for newspapers in Virginia and West Virginia before returning to Rock Hill in 1965.

He was named publisher in 1970 and remained in that position until 1993. He was president of the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association from 1988-89.

Nancy Evelyn Stout

Nancy Evelyn Stout, 70, died in her sleep Sept. 4 at her Weatherford home.

She was society editor of the Winnsboro News. She and husband Buck later moved to Saginaw where they established the Saginaw Sentinel.

Together they served as editor, ad director, publisher, production manager, etc. until eventually selling the newspaper to William Dean Singleton.

She worked at the Parker County Shopper and co-founded the Parker County Advertiser.
