John Edd Blessing

John Edd “Jedd” Blessing, 69, died Oct. 17, 2005, in Fort Worth.

Blessing joined the Lamb County News-Leader in 1962 and later served as editor at the Hesperian in Floyd County and as publisher of the Crosbyton Review.

After retiring from a long career in the field of mental retardation, he joined the staff of B&B Publishing, Inc., owned by his wife, Gene S. Blessing, in publishing the Everman Times, Kennedale News, Forest Hill News and South County News in Tarrant County.

Barry Boesch

Barry Boesch, 51, died Sept. 29, 2005, of complications of a brain tumor.

He was executive editor of the Denton Record-Chronicle and former longtime reporter and editor at The Dallas Morning News.

He came to the Record-Chronicle in October 2001. Boesch began his newspaper career in 1976 at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. A year later, he joined the Morning News as a general assignment reporter.

Frieda Duke

Frieda Duke, 69, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005.

She was the Vashti correspondent for the Clay County Leader.

Kenneth Galbreaith

Kenneth Norman Galbreaith, 69, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, in a Fort Worth hospital.

He was a newspaper editor, writer, photographer, musician, weekly columnist, air traffic controller and sheriff’s

department dispatcher. He wrote “The Real World” weekly columns the Weatherford Democrat. He also served as editor and photographer of the local newspaper for many years. He retired from the Parker County Sheriff’s Department two years ago.

Howard Green

Howard Lemuel Green, 84, died Oct. 13, 2005, of complications of an aneurysm at a Fort Worth hospice.

As a teenager, he wrote sports for the Abilene Reporter-News.

He served five terms in the Texas Legislature and was county judge in Tarrant County from 1967-74. He was a minor league baseball commissioner. His grandson is actor Ethan Hawke.

Charles E. Haynes

Charles E. Haynes, 81, of Amarillo, died Sept. 19, 2005.

He served Roberts County as a county judge for more than 20 years and was the owner/editor of the Miami Chief for many years.

Bill W. Stevenson

Lt. Billy W. Stevenson USN ret., 64, of Castroville, died Sept. 25, 2005, in San Antonio. He was a contributing columnist for the Castroville News Bulletin and Medina Valley Times, until his health forced him to retire.

Margaret Venglar

Margaret Venglar, 74, died in Wharton on Sept. 12, 2005. She was classified ad manager of the Wharton Journal-Spectator for more than 20 years.

She joined the newspaper staff Oct. 1, 1979, as a mailroom helper. She moved to circulation receptionist, circulation bookkeeper, classified receptionist and classified sales. She was named classified manager in 1984 and continued up to the time of her death.
