Audrey McAlister

Audrey Eunice McAlister, 100, died April 16, 2008, at Taylor Care Center in Taylor. She was three weeks away from her 101st birthday.

McAlister married Texas Press Association’s 1964-65 president Aubrey McAlister on July 15, 1935. They were married for nearly 66 years until his death in 2001.

After his service in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific in WWII, the McAlisters bought a weekly newspaper in Hominy, Okla., and later sold that and bought another in Grove, Okla. In 1954, the couple bought the Bonham Daily Favorite and Audrey McAlister was the society editor for more than 20 years.


Dr. Ron Durham

Dr. Ron Durham, 76, died March 21, 2008, at San Angelo Community Medical Center after recent surgery for esophageal cancer.

Durham had worked as a freelance writer and editor since retiring from the San Angelo Standard-Times in 1998. He also had been a religion writer for The Houston Post.


Dorrance Guy

Dorrance Herbert Guy, 76, died March 5, 2008. He was executive editor for the El Paso Times in the 1970s and began his career there in 1962 as an assistant Sunday editor. He also worked at the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal from 1947-62.


LeRoy Wilson

LeRoy V. Wilson, 69, died April 2, 2008, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kan.

He was owner and publisher of the Morton Tribune from 1996 to 2001. He also published newspapers in Oklahoma.
