Floresville, Aubrey weeklies stop publishing

The Floresville Chronicle-Journal has ceased publication.

The paper was acquired by Moser Community Media at the end of 2007, and had been sold and resold several times before that. The paper was founded in 1877.

Also in April the Town Charter in Aubrey/Krugerville ceased publication after losing key members of its staff.

Newspaper officials told a TPA staff member the newspaper hoped to reorganize as a free publication.

Bartlett launches portal

BARTLETT — The Tribune-Progress launched a new online edition last month at www.tribune-progress.com.

More weeklies are adding online editions as technology improves and becomes more accessible but maintaining a Web site in addition to the print edition still is a challenge for most weeklies. As of last month, only 54.7 percent, 202 Texas weeklies, have a Web site listed in the TPA database.

All but one of the 88 daily newspapers in the TPA database have Web sites.
